Minimum order and box price updates
Matthew's letter about the evolution of pricing at Zsámbok
Dear Zsámboki Biokert consumers.
We want to be transparent with you, as our valued customers. Over the last years food inflation has seen double digits. At Zsámboki Biokert our costs have risen considerably too (like most other businesses in Hungary). We haven't passed on all these price rises to our customers and we have tried to absorb as many of the rise in costs as we could. Now, to continue to reach realistic prices, we need to increase our prices. We will do this carefully and thoughtfully. We will not apply price increases across all of our products across the whole range, and certainly not all at once. For now, we are mainly increasing the price of our own grown vegetables, as we know the production costs of these, and we need to balance our costs of production with the price we sell at. Looking at the competitors in the market, this feels a reasonable move to make.
Some of our produce in the "hungry gap" is imported. We do this to ensure a steady supply of organic, seasonal produce (even if they have to travel from a neighbouring country). We want to be as transparent about this as possible and show it on the webshop, so please check product details for information on origin. On imported products or products from other Hungarian producers are always certified organic, by internationally recognised certification systems - ONLY 100% ORGANIC, guaranteed!, this is non-negotiable. To these products we apply a small markup, which depends on our purchase price. If our partners keep their prices stable, we also do not raise their prices. Clearly our preference is to first and foremost promote our own Zsamboki Biokert produce, which becomes a lot easier as the season starts.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We are increasing the minimum spend on webshop orders from Wednesday 18th of March 2026 from 6000Ft to 8000Ft. At the same time we are increasing the cost of our small box price from 6000Ft to 8000Ft and on the cost of our medium boxes from 8000Ft to 11000Ft . It’s important to note that this is not a price rise of individual products, it’s room that allows us to create a nice choice of products in the mixed boxes each week as we go into the new season.

We are of course aware that with pressures on household finances, for some of you this price rise might be the divider in whether you can continue to access Zsamboki Biokert produce while supporting our business. We of course don’t want to forget about you. If this is a real problem for food shopping decisions, please let us know on info@zsambokibiokert.hu and we can discreetly work on a solution with you. We’re also planning partnerships with local non-profit partners to allow more people access to our healthy, fresh, seasonal, organic produce. Watch this space.
Thankful for your continued support and custom.
