Open Day 2025 October
Last Saturday we held an open day/harvest festival at Zsámboki Biokert. We had a wonderful day.
Abour 30 people came, with most people arriving in the morning and helped to harvest our potato crop. Thank you to everyone who helped - it was a great chance to meet each other whilst being outside and with our hands in the soil. It wasn't a record harvest as the potatoes stayed small due to our struggles over the summer with our water supply for irrigation. The number of potatoes we harvested was good, but the total weight of potatoes was down on a normal year - however, the potatoes taste great!, and we have plenty of healthy potatoes in store now.
We had a delicious bogrács lunch - thank you to Kati and her team on the day for the great food. Most people joined the tour of the garden, and also had at least one horse and cart ride with Sári. We had a fantastic line of of musicians and dance teachers to lead us in the táncház we held in the apple orchard. For me the highlight of the day was after the táncház, when all the band members as well as other remaining harvesters climbed onto the horse and cart again, and we had a last round with Sári. We clomped along for about an hour with live music and folk singing non-stop until we got back home.
Thank you to Dani, Kati and the rest of the band and folk dance troupe for their incredible contribution. We hope to repeat the festival next year, and will do our best to let everyone know in good time.
