Waldorf Agriculture Practice May 2025
We are having the annual Waldorf students visiting us for completing their agricultural experience part of the Waldorf curriculum.
This last week we had 30 Class 9 students from the Pesthidegkút Waldorf Iskola on their week long farming experience at Zsámboki Biokert this week. The class camped in the apple orchard (there were a few chilly nights for them to survive) and during the day lots of activities around the garden - from "flipping" the cultivation over in the large polytunnels from the winter/spring leafy crops, to planting out tomatoes, pumpkins and elsewhere peppers, cucumbers, celery, and much, much more. Lots of ground was turned, lots of beds composted and a small building project completed. We put up a roof cover for some of the tractor machinery we have been acquiring, so it doesn't just stay out in the rain.
The week-long "mezőgazdasági gyakorlat' (farm exprience week), which the Waldorf students come the the garden for are, we believe, quite a valuable chance to get to learn more about organic farming practice (especially organic veg growing) and to learn more about where our food comes from, and get to think more deeply about the impacts of our eating choices on our environment and our own health.
