Millet – health and local quality
Millet belongs to the grasses. It can be considered a cereal crop, but with significantly different genetics to wheat or other typical cereals.
This difference gives millet its main advantages: it is gluten-free, good for gut health, and helps with blood sugar control (as well as helping to
reduce the risk of heart disease)—in other words, a very useful grain crop.
We are lucky to have a great supplier: Hungarian-grown organic millet from Martin Ringhoffer, an old friend and organic grower close to Szentes,
in the south of Hungary. One of the main challenges for a small-scale grower is getting the outside husk removed (hántolás), which adds to the
production costs. While you might find millet cheaper in some stores, we are sure it wouldn't be the same quality as Martin's, and here you are
supporting a dedicated, local (German origin) organic grower.
