A lot of the week was spent weeding the carrots, to get the recently sown crop really clean (= free of weeds) to maximise growth. Carrots can be a tricky crop, especially in the early stages - they are slow to germinate, and the weeds easily out-compete the carrots in the first couple of months. Once the crop is established, and they have a healthy growth of foliage, they are much better at competing with the weeds around them, as they demand their fair share of the sunlight. Carrots, like many crops, are a very different beast when grown organically or conventionally - nutritionally also a huge difference.
